In her speech Adora had a few very good advices for her audience on finding the right startup idea and actually being successful with it. When she first decided to found a startup together with her brother, their goal was to make people happy, but soon they found out that matching customers to life coaches and therapists wasn’t it. Many other ideas failed, but the glorious idea for homejoy came, when her very messy brother searched for a good but cheap cleaning lady which proved to be impossible. Homejoy brings customers together with affordable but background checked cleaning ladies.
Since her startup ideas weren't successful for a long time, Adora has gained a lot of experience and was able to give some good advices to the audience:
"Most important is to be working on a problem which you and other people have." Also you should be an expert in whatever your startup is dealing with. Adora for example worked at a cleaning company for a few weeks. Furthermore it is important to have optimistic but realistic growth path expectations. "If you don’t meet them you're either doing something wrong or your product will never work out!" Make your product addicting and awesome so that people love it. And of course last but not least, never give up just like Adora didn’t after her first startups failed.
